Security and Secured Networks

Ensonix can help to secure your networks against unwanted instrusions, data theft or data loss by utilizing any or all of the techniques below.

Anti-virus Software

Anti-virus software detects and removes or quarantines viruses, trojans and worms on your computer, and offers protection against such malicious programs. Anti-virus software needs to be updated regularly as virus writers are constantly producing new variants. Ensonix can advise on and implement your anti-virus strategy on a company-wide basis.

Firewalls

A firewall is a hardware and/or software device that sits between your computer network and the outside world, and offers a layer of security that protects your computers from intruders. The firewall will not allow any network traffic to enter or exit your computer unless it is from a recognized system, or follows an allowed protocol. Firewalls offer protection from trojans, adware and spyware that covertly monitor your keystrokes or record other information from your computer and then attempt to send it back to the writer's system. All networks should employ a firewall to keep out intruders and malicious files that could be hazzardous to the security or stability of the system.

Access Authorization

Access Authorization controls who is allowed to access your systems, or parts of your system, or certain files. The most commonly used methods are passwords or identification cards, however more technologically advanced methods include smart cards or biometrics like fingerprint readers. Ensonix can devise your authorization systems to whatever degree of security you would like, and balance the type of system employed against your ease of use requirements.

Encryption of Sensitive Data

Encryption secures your data by scrambling it in a way that it cannot be read during transmission without the proper decryption codes. Modern encryption methods are almost impossible to crack, even with a brute force attack using computers to "guess" the encryption key. Public Key encryption enables the sender to send a message to a recipient using the recipient's public encryption key, knowing that only the recipient will be able to decrypt and read the message. A similar system can be used to transmit passwords and other sensitive data from a database to a web browser and back again.

Intrusion Detection Systems

Intrusion-detection systems can constantly scan a network for suspicious activity that might identify unauthorized network access, for example trying a lot of passwords to gain access to the network.

Social Engineering Awareness

Social Engineering is a method of network intrusion that involves playing on human fallibility to gain passwords and access to areas that would otherwise be off-limits. Ensonix can advise you on developing a corporate policy to keep you and your employees aware of the dangers of social engineering to prevent security breaches.

Backups

Backups are an important, and sometimes forgotten component of network security. Backups are copies of all your important computer files kept in another location.

  • Backups can be made to CD-R's, CD-RW's, DVD's, Tapes, Cartridges.
  • Backups can simply be kept in a separate location from the original files.
  • Backups can be kept in a fireproof, waterproof, heat proof safe, in a secure commercial backup storage facility, or an online commercial backup solution.

Backing up your data keeps it secure and off the network, but also keeps it safe from natural disasters like hurricanes, tornados and floods. Backing up to more than one geographic location provides the best overall strategy for keeping your data secure and safe from all events.

Ensonix engineers can advise on, devise and implement your network and data security strategy for you. This is charged at our standard hourly IT rate, or can be included as part of a Support9 or Support24 contract. Call us today to arrange a free, no-obligation consultation.
